The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s, General Port Authority MAWANI, announced in April 2024 that the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) would add its new Levant Express service to Jeddah Islamic Port. This connection will link the Kingdom to ports in Northern and Southern Europe, creating exciting opportunities for logistics development.

The addition of Levant Express to Jeddah Islamic Port provides the port with major advantages, increasing competitiveness, developing investment opportunities and import-export service provision. It also paves the way for improving logistics services and aligns with the Kingdom's ambitions to develop into a global logistics hub.

The Express offers direct links from Jeddah Islamic Port to key European ports such as La Spezia and Naples (Italy), Mersin (Turkey), and Alexandria (Egypt). With regular weekly departures and the capacity to accommodate up to 15,000 TEUs, this service delivers significant benefits to exporters, importers, and shipping agents.

The introduction of the Levante Express service demonstrates investors' trust in the operational efficiency of Jeddah Islamic Port and its versatility in handling various cargo types and vessel sizes. This seamlessly aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), which aims to solidify Saudi Arabia's stature as a global logistics hub connecting continents.

The developments led by MAWANI and the securing of the Levant Express drive Jeddah Islamic Port toward its objective of securing a spot among the world's top 10 ports. The completion of SAR6.6 billion worth of enhancements and upgrades at the Northern Container Terminal this year has notably bolstered operational capabilities, expanded handling capacity, and streamlined logistics services.

The Kingdom continues its efforts to enhance its competitive edge in the global maritime industry and support the facilitation shipping and the development of the blue economy both nationally and internationally.
